Theme: Two Step Tango

Brown Bag Mystery is more than just a bag of fabric. It’s a guided quilting experience designed to help you learn, stay motivated, and quilt alongside a community of quilters from around the country.

Designed by Karen Montgomery, Brown Bag Mystery combines surprise, instruction, and connection into one fun program.

Each sealed Brown Bag Mystery kit is chosen based on one fabric you can see. Inside the bag are six coordinating fabrics and cutting instructions to help you prepare before the mystery begins. The quilt design itself is revealed gradually through a series of mailed clues, allowing you to build the quilt step by step.

The finished quilt measures 60" x 60".

A guided experience, not just a kit

When you purchase a Brown Bag Mystery, you’re also joining a guided quilt-along experience. Participants receive instructions on how to join a private Facebook group, where Karen Montgomery shares video lessons, construction tips, and guidance for each clue as it’s released.

This group is where the mystery really comes to life. You’ll be quilting alongside others, watching instructional videos, asking questions, and gaining confidence as the quilt unfolds.

Clue release schedule

Mystery clues will be mailed on the following dates:

• March 20, 2026

• April 3, 2026

• April 17, 2026

• May 1, 2026

• May 15, 2026

Clues are released every two weeks, giving you plenty of time to work at your own pace.

Choose your piecing method

Quilters can choose the construction method that works best for them:

• Traditional piecing using rulers, or

• Foundation paper piecing using the exclusive Brown Bag Mystery paper pad, available only through Sewposium shops

Both options are available at the time of bag purchase.

Want to make it larger?

Customers may:

• Purchase two matching Brown Bag Mystery kits to create a larger quilt, or

• Add an optional border fabric kit (available while supplies last)
